The Single-Side Mounted Pneumatic Winding Shaft (Einseitige Wickelwelle) grips paper, foil or film cores from the inside using air-inflatable clamping elements. When compressed air is supplied, the clamping elements expand radially and hold the roll core; when the air is released the core slides off freely. The shaft is supported on one side only (cantilever) via a Bajonettflansch (bayonet flange). The opposite end is free, which allows the finished roll to be pulled off axially without opening a second bearing.
Technical overview
Web-width range: up to approx. 1,600 mm (narrower than the two-side version due to cantilever bending moment). Maximum rotational speed: 500 RPM (standard, all diameters). Standard sleeve inner diameters: 40, 50, 70, 76, 100, 120, 152 and 200 mm.

Bending moment acting on the shaft (cantilever case):
M [Nm] = (Roll weight [kg] × 10 + Web tension [N]) × Roll width [mm] / 2000
This value has to stay below the bending-load limit of the chosen bearing unit (Typ 30 / 30N / 50) AND below the flange/variant limit.
Air-supply options
Manual: separate compressed-air gun + shut-off valve (operator inflates/deflates the shaft by hand before/after the roll change). Automatic: Druckluft-Drehdurchführung (rotary air feedthrough) so the shaft can be pressurised while rotating. Used with a bahnzugregelbarer Antrieb (tension-regulated drive) when continuous pressure is required.
Primary supplier today (post-2010): Suzhou Xian Yan (China). Approximately 350 3D hull models are required to cover all length / diameter / variant combinations for the shaft configurator.
