Knife Ring UM140/80

In shear cutting the web contacts knife rings in the direction of web travel. These are mounted on a driven roller. The circumferential speed of the knife rings is 3 % to 5 % higher than the web speed.

Knife holders are mounted on the opposite side. The vertical stroke axis dips the shear-cut circular blade through the web, which then moves a short horizontal distance to rest face-on against the knife ring. Overlap between knife ring and circular blade is 0.5 mm to 1 mm.

Shear-cut knife rings are clamped directly onto the cutting rollers. Their surfaces are therefore hardened and ground to high precision.

For cutting heavy webs — thick aluminium foils and laminates, for example — two knife shafts with overlapping knife rings are suitable.
