The specific tension depends on material and thickness – use the value from your material's data sheet or your experience. 1 N/mm = 10 N/cm = 1000 N/m.

Result

Total web tension
500 N
Torque at the core
22.5 Nm
Torque at the full roll
150 Nm
Power (tension × speed)

Without acceleration and friction torque. We are happy to help size the drive or brake.

How it is calculated

How do you calculate web tension?

Total tension in N = specific tension in N/mm × web width in mm. Example: 0.5 N/mm × 1000 mm = 500 N.

How do you calculate winding torque?

Torque in Nm = tension in N × radius in m. 500 N on a 90 mm core gives 22.5 Nm, on a full 600 mm roll already 150 Nm.

How much power does the winder need?

Power in W = tension in N × web speed in m/s. 500 N at 150 m/min (2.5 m/s) is 1,250 W – independent of the roll diameter.
